Have a nice day, happily ever after ^^
Each country has some special street food...
I, personally, think that the following photo shows the very food of S. Korea...
Well, actually, they are, I think, enough for a proper dine...
I made Kimbab (Rice Roll), and bought Soondae (I guess maybe 'Embutido'?!).
My mom made Tteokbokki (red one...^^)
As California Roll, you may put a particular ingridient in it. I usually use 'Tuna'.
Kimbab contains of rice (of course), ham/ razor calm/ fish cake, tuna/kimchi/fried pork/ grilled beaf/ etc., pickled radish(it is necessary), carrot, egg... oh, and Kim (Lavar).
The white roll is called 'nude Kimbab' ...^^ as we can see its 'flesh (rice)'...:) I believe that's pretty creative...
**** Recipe:
You prepare rice (don't use a pot but proper rice cooker, if you use a pot, the rice looses its adhesiveness...oh, you should use Korean or Japanese rice, never use Eastasian ones since they're different species...and have completely different properites),
fry or boil ham (doctors say boiling will have hams leak its pigment coloring), cutting it narrow-long. Slice a carrot and fry it. Stir an egg and fry it, cutting as ham done.
You cannot make pickled radish by your own... I suggest you buy them from a market.
After all the ingredients prepared, first, you spread a sheet of lavar, spreading rice on it and place your special ingredients. You may use sesame leaves. Then ROLL it! You may buy a bamboo-roller in a market...
If you cannot find in a local market, then go to a Korean-market or look for it on the internet.^^
You can do it without roller but it might be a little bit difficult...
Tteokbokki is a most-loved street food of Korea... There is royal-tteokbokki as well which used Soysauce instead of Gojujang(red peper paste).
The red peper wasn't Korean plant/food at all...until the War occured between Korean(Joseon) and Japan in A.D. 1592... It is said that the red pepers were spread to surprise Koreans... which means it was actually 'chemical weapon' in that age! Well, but somehow, Koreans found it delicious...
O, there is a anecdote saying that people eat red pepers as a medicine after a girl with tilted mouth corrected her mouth with red peper... I am not sure whether it's really happened or not...
Anyway, Tteokbokki is the prime snack for Koreans.
****Recipe:
Since nowadays we cannot make rice-cake at home, buy 'bar rice cake'. O, of course, you can use any shape of rice-cake...but don't use mochi...;;;
Since nowadays we cannot make Gochjang at home (we can but that takes a long time, since it's fermented food)... but it as well...;;; he he...
Buy fish cake, cut onions, spring onions in an adequate size.
Boil water. When it boils with bubbles, put the rice cake. Don't worry even if it's stiff... When it boils again, put the rest ingredients with Gochujang and 3~5 tea spoons of sugar.
You can put cababge or boiled egg if you want...
